Freight Services

The barge freight service to Wadeye, operated by Murin since 2020 in partnership

with Auriga Logistics, ended on 1 September 2025. This weekly service was critical

for delivering essential goods—particularly during the Wet Season when road access

is unreliable. The service was cancelled following Auriga’s decision to withdraw from

regional logistics operations, which made continuation of the Wadeye route unviable

under the existing commercial model.

The Northern Territory Government released an Expression of Interest (EOI) on Monday, 1 September 2025, to identify new operators for barge freight services to Wadeye and the wider West Daly region. This process aims to ensure continued supply chains, especially given the region’s vulnerability during the Wet Season when roads are often impassable.

Murin hopes the EOI will also highlight the broader logistical vulnerabilities that remote communities face and inform longer-term solutions. The organisation remains committed to building on its experience and community relationships to continue delivering freight services to Wadeye under a new, sustainable model.

Interim Road Freight Arrangements



While the EOI process is underway, Murin has established a temporary road freight service, including refrigerated delivery capacity, to bridge the gap until a permanent solution is in place.
